The 82-mile Poseidon line begins in South Brunswick, New Jersey and interconnects in Long Island at the Ruland Road substation in Melville. This high-voltage, direct current line, will be buried underground or underwater over its entire route – leaving no residual aesthetic impact on the surrounding environment. Functioning like a long extension cord, the project will help deliver affordable, reliable, and clean energy to the heart of Long Island’s transmission and distribution network.
Poseidon’s construction will include the creation of new $100+ million converter stations in Melville and South Brunswick, assets that will generate new tax revenue for local New Jersey and Long Island communities without any additional burden on government services. By providing Long Island with 500 MW of low-cost power from PJM for 50-75 years, Poseidon will deliver affordable and reliable power for generations to come.
Poseidon produces zero air or water emissions in New Jersey and Long Island, helping to safeguard local air quality and aquifers. Additionally, Poseidon provides Long Island decision makers a cost effective strategy to secure up to 500 MW of renewable power.
